I am so disappointed that I lost the story behind this cover. |
So this is something that I found in the depths of my laptop and did a bit of rewriting. I'm really nervous about showing you guys, but I'll think it'll be okay. I'm going to try and make this a constant thing and occasionally share my work with you and also hopefully share the work of others too! Anyway, this is a piece that I wrote when I wanted to get back into writing. I'm hoping to write something much longer than this, but with similar vibes. I'd love to hear your thoughts, and the vibes you get from the overall piece. Also, feel free to point out any mistakes and make criticisms, I always want to grow.

Elizabeth lay in the middle of the vacant field. Her head rested in her arms, and her hair fell down her back as she lay still in the soft grass. There was a slight breeze in the air, but it was so slight it wasn’t even there. Pure white daisies, with honey coloured middles, swayed in the silence. Back and forth, side to side, a continuous care free motion. The sun shone down, with no cloud to stop its glare. The sky was unbelievably blue for such a happily lazy day, no puffy clouds being suspended from the sky ... Just, blue. Elizabeth’s cotton dress, was printed with orchids and white roses. The skirt billowed slightly in the absent breeze, and her body moved steadily up and down as she breathed.
It was serene. Naturally quiet. Nature raw, and undisturbed.
Elizabeth’s lids fluttered open, to reveal a pair of beautiful eyes. They were a mixture of light and soul. Brown eyes ready to fight. “And what I would do, and what I would give, to fly.” The simple wish, uttered from Elizabeths brown lips, as she looked up into the sky. She couldn’t help but think, what would happen if she just ran away. Just got on her bike in the parking lot, and just cycled. Nowhere in mind, but just went anyway, because anywhere would be better than here. “Or just leave this place.” Elizabeth rolled onto her back and stared properly up at the sky. Her head sank into the soft blanket of the green blades, and her eyes closed again. The warmth of the sun, compelling her. “If only,” she whispered, and began to play with one of the many stretched curls that fell from her head. “I’d cycle through the town, and out into the country side.” Her thoughts wandered as her imagination began to spiral out of her brain and onto her lips. “Ride in pink cars, play all the boys like they played my friends.” Elizabeth chuckled to herself. “Who’d believe that a pretty brown girl would do such a thing? No one, that’s who.”
Elizabeth wrapped the curl round her finger, and didn’t dare open her eyes. She wanted to stay in a world, where anything could happen. Where she could turn from a spy to a superhero, and from a superhero to superstar. Where she could tour the world, or just sit in her back yard reading those pretty classics. Or maybe, just sit underneath a tree, in his arms, because that’s the only place she needs to be. She wanted to stay in a world where her appearance wouldn’t be judged and her beauty acknowledged. She wanted to stay in a world where she could do and be anything she wanted. “He could come with me.” And indeed he could. “We’d be a bit like Bonnie and Clyde.” And Elizabeth’s imagination, ventured off again. Escalated even, to a whole new world. She never really liked to think about him, since the more she did, the more she’d feel herself sinking fast into false hope.
Although, when she did, think of him, it was always in the sweetest of ways. “He’d call me pretty, and be all sweet and stuff,” she whispered. “And all of them,” she breathed hard. “All a them would be jealous, because I have someone and they don’t.” She exhaled silently, and licked her lower lip. Elizabeth moved to another curl, and carried on with her dreaming. “We’d both be all happy when we see each other, and it’ll be nice. Simply dandy. "He’ll be, holding me in his arms, and calling me ‘precious’ and ‘honey.’" Elizabeth smiled, and pushed him into the back of her mind; to where the flowers grew, and the honey flowed. To where the skies were blue, and everything, was simply mellow.
She moved slowly through her mind. She’d created a lane there, where everything was just beautiful. She’d walk in her black lace ups, and cotton dress, with her afro reaching up to the sky, and flowing down to her waist. The sun would always be about to set, or would be shining lazy rays, since every day was a lazy one. Nature was perfect, with the beautiful honey loving bees, buzzing round her head. The white butterflies so pure, fluttering round, and batting their wings. “I see trees of green, red roses too.” Elizabeth’s voice was barely a whisper, but her lips broke into a smile anyway. “And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.”
