So I don't know why my title picture things are being weird on the home page but please ignore them.
Okay, so I wanted this to be a video!!! But I want to edit it how I like and my phone has no space (damn iPhones) my laptop is dying and I have lost my camera charger so this is all written!
Anyway, I've been noticing something that has frustrated me. Right now, you can't really get anywhere, if you don't have social media. You can't get anywhere if you don't have lots of followers. Usually, you get lots of followers, by essentially looking good and being photogenic. So basically, if you are an illustrator, for example, your success kind of depends on how photogenic YOU are, and how many likes you get on a selfie. How is that fair?! Unless your a model, where you are literally selling your appearance and that's what you do, why should what you look like matter?
Look, I get it. People want to follow people that they think are hot. Thirst following? I think that's what it's called. Anyway, I just feel that we rely on that way too much now, and only certain types of people are gonna get up there.
Does this make any sense?
I feel that for us young, creative people, we have to "look good," and not let our art shine for us. It's like a popularity contest, and once you've won that, only then will people start looking at what you're really about.
I completely agree with this. I just talked to my sister about it and how, for example, youtube, you can get anywhere on that site if you are 'pretty' and is living a life many would want to live. People follow other people because they are jealous of their lives, and that sounds so..strange. It's crazy (and completely ridiculous) how your appearance can help you become successful. SO ridiculous.
ReplyDeletei know!! i mean i don't blame people for using what they have to get them to where they want to be. like use your natural resources but i hate that that's what it's based on, and it just makes it that much harder for people who don't fit that ideal to make it :/
